DIY Red

From time to time I look through my vast collection of lipsticks and think "neh, none of you are doing it for me today".  Being the economical soul that I am I don't just rush out to buy a new shade every time this happens, so, I have to work with what I got.

This time I was working with red.  Red and orange.  I wanted a specific shade of orange-toned red and none of the orange-toned reds I own (at least 5) were giving up the goods.  I went in with MAC Redd Lip Pencil (£12 from MAC Cosmetics) first; I tend to put lip liner all over my lips to avoid any hint of an actual line because that's not what I'm about.  This just lays a good orangey red base (it's my favourite liner for that... colour? shade? family). Next was NARS Dragon Girl Velvet Matte Lip Pencil (£18 from SpaceNK) which kinda brought me back the wrong way.  It is more blue based but I went with it, I thought on my feet.  That's where the Hourglass Opaque Rouge Liquid Lipstick in Riveria (£23 from SpaceNK) did its thing.  This is ORANGE.  One thin layer of this and I had arrived at that magical shade I had created in my head; for on that day, this was orange-red perfection.

All the layers (again, thin, and I blotted) meant that my lips stayed put pretty much through the night, even after eats and drinks.  With that, I feel like I have this whole summer thing nailed already.

You know what they say... some people are looking for love, I'm just looking for a red lipstick that will strike the fear of god into a man's heart.

I, I say that.
